The Black Forest mine is located a few miles above the ghost town of Sprucemont, Nevada at ~8700' feet. The elevation made for some very dry snow.

A Caterpillar tractor or generator of some sort is abandoned here. It looks to be in good shape. If you know when this mine was last used, please let me know.

Peeking down the mineshaft: Again, everything seems to be in reasonable order. Is this an operating mine -- or just a well preserved one? Needless to say, I didn't venture in.

A view from the mineshaft to the east. The tailings are behind the tractor.

The mine tailings and a view of the Ruby Mountain Wilderness.

Not much is left standing in Sprucemont. I found this wall off in the scrub, several hundred yards from where Sprucemont is marked on the map.

A view looking east from Sprucemont across the Ruby Valley.
